We always knew we were meant to live in the country — we just never imagined it would lead us to the life we’re living now.

It started small: a few ducks for the pond in the summer of 2019, then four goats that came home with us that Christmas. From there, everything unfolded naturally, organically, swiftly. One project turned into another, the animals multiplied, and before we knew it, we were building a life centered around self‑sufficiency and using what we have right here on our land.

Our goal is simple: eliminate as much dependence on the grocery store as possible and live in a way that feels honest, intentional, and connected to the work of our own hands.

Josh is a roofer by trade, and anyone who knows that line of work knows how physically demanding it is. But his skills, ingenuity, and willingness to try anything are some of the most valuable things we have on this farm. If something needs to be built, repaired, or completely invented from scratch, he’ll figure it out — and it always turns out better than expected. He works harder than anyone I know. If he’s not on a roof, he’s here on the farm building, fixing, improving, or dreaming up the next project. He may not love the customer‑facing side of things, but that’s alright — because the talkative half of this team gets that from her dad!

I’m Sam, and I’ve spent many years in the financial industry. For a long time, that career provided stability and direction. But in 2024, everything shifted. After working remotely for two years, my employer suddenly demanded we return to the office. With everything happening on the farm, that simply wasn’t possible. And honestly, it wasn’t just the logistics — it was the growing frustration of watching big corporations treat people like they’re disposable. Customers, employees, it doesn’t matter. The bigger the company, the less heart it seems to have. I was tired of giving my time to a system that didn’t care about the people keeping it running day in and day out.

Josh didn’t even hesitate — “Quit. We’ll figure it out.” So I did. I walked away from the so‑called stability, from the corporate mindset, from the idea that security is worth more than purpose. The stability disappeared overnight, but what replaced it was something I had been craving for years: meaning and a purpose.

I picked up a part‑time job for a little income, but eventually even that felt like it was pulling me away from what mattered. So I quit that too, choosing instead to sink everything — my time, my energy, my heart — into this business we’re trying to build. We’re still not financially stable. Some days are hard. Some days are scary. But even with the struggle, I feel more aligned with who I am than I ever did sitting behind a desk.

Now I pour myself into making the products we offer and into the work that makes this place feel like home. Every bar of soap, every product we create, every improvement on this land is a step toward the life we’re building together — a life rooted in hard work, resourcefulness, and the belief that small, honest businesses matter. This farm may not be fully self‑sustaining yet, and the business may still be growing, but it’s real. It’s ours. And it’s built with more heart than any corporation could ever even understand.
